UPAYA MENINGKATKAN MINAT DAN HASIL BELAJAR IPS MENGGUNAKAN METODE SCRAMBLE DI KELAS VIII D SMP NEGERI 3 DEPOK

Abstract


This research aimed to investigate: (1) efforts to improve the Social Studies learning interest and
achievement through the Scramble method in Grade VIII D of SMP Negeri 3 Depok, and (2) the
improvement of the Social Studies learning interest and achievement through the Scramble method.
This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) by Kemmis and McTaggart consisting of
the stages of planning, action and observation, and reflection. The data were collected through
observations, questionnaires, interviews, tests, and documentation. The data analysis technique was the
qualitative technique. The research subjects were the students of Grade VIII D of SMP Negeri 3 Depok
with a total of 32 students.
The results of the study were as follows. (1) The teacher explained learning objectives and
materials, distributed worksheets in which there were questions, and presented random answers through
slides with the automatic time of 1 minute for each question, the random questions were added with
distracting letters to stimulate more consentration and the students had to answer all the questions
independently, the answers were checked by the deskmate, and the teacher assessed them and gave a
reward to the student attaining the highest score. (2) The use of the Scramble method was capable of
improving the learning interest and achievement. This was indicated by the results of the observations,
questionnaires, and interviews, showing that the interest improvement affected the Social Studies learning
achievement. The interest improvement in Cycle I was 68.11% and it became 77.28% in Cycle II. The
mean score of the learning achievement was 73.75 and it improved to 79,52 in Cycle II. The study was
successful because it satisfied the criterion for the action success, namely >75.
