EFEKTIVITAS METODE INDEX CARD MATCH DAN METODE CERAMAH TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR IPS KELAS VII DI SMP NEGERI 2 GODEAN

Abstract


The research backgrounds are that: 1) the lecture method is often used in learning processes,
and 2) the Index Card Match method is effective to improve students’ learning outcomes and can be
used in Social Studies learning. This study aimed to find out whether the Index Card Match method
was more effective than the lecture method in the learning outcomes of Social Studies of Grade VII
students of SMP Negeri 2 Godean.This was a quasi-experimental study using the Pretest-Posttest
Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research population comprised all grades VII of SMP
Negeri 2 Godean and the sample consisted of Grade VII C as the experimental class and Grade VII A
as the control class. The sample was selected by means of the random sampling technique. The data
were collected through tests. They were collected by multiple choice objective tests. The instruments
were validated by Product Moment and reliability by Cronbach’s Alpha. The hypothesis was tested by
the t-test (Independent Sample T-Test). The effectiveness was measured by Cohen D effect size. The
result of the study showed that the Index Card Match war more effective than the lecture method. This
was proved by the hypothesis testing for the posttest data with tobserved > ttable (5,117 > 1,999) and the
significance value of the posttest, namely sig (2-tailed) 0,000 < 0,05. The learning outcomes of Social
Studies using the Index Card Match method were higher than those using the lecture method. This was
indicated by the posttest mean score of the experimental class which was 89,31. Meanwhile, the
posttest mean score of the control class was 79,78. The effectiveness of Social Studies learning
through the application of the Index Card Match was high.
