THE APPLICATION OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING (PBL) TEACHING MODEL TO INCREASE THE STUDENTS’ INVOLVEMENT AND AUTONOMY IN VOCATIONAL COMPETENCE SUBJECT OF GRADE X STUDENTS OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING AND NETWORKS CLASS AT SMK MUHAMMADIYAH 1 YOGYAKARTA

Abstract


Research aimed to increase the students’ involvement and autonomy in Vocational Competence subject with the recovery of computer periferal sub material of grade X students of Computer Engineering and Networks Class at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta by applying Problem-Based Learning (PBL) teaching model.
Research belongs to classroom action research. The subjects of research were the students of grade X of Computer Engineering and Networks Class in the number of 41 students. Research was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The techniques of data collection of this research were the observation sheet of the students’ involvement and autonomy, the observation sheet of teaching-learning process using Problem-Based Learning and documentation. The method to analyze the data was qualitative descriptive analysis.
The result of this research showed that the students’ involvement and autonomy in Vocational Competence subject with the recovery of computer periferal sub material of grade X students of Computer Engineering and Networks Class at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta can be enhanced by applying Problem-Based Learning (PBL) teaching model. The enhancement can be seen from the improvement of cycle I to cycle II based on the baseline that had been discussed with the teacher. The average of the students’ involvement in cycle I was 61.13%, it increased to 68.49% in cycle II. The average of the students’ autonomy in cycle I was 66.57%, it increased to 76.35% in cycle II.
