Abstract

This study aims to determine. (1) Improved analytical skills of students in the class that uses the Problem Based lerning method (PBL). (2) The difference between the learning outcomes of learning that implementing PBL method compared to the conventional method in SMK N 1 Bantul. (3) the effectiveness of PBL method in improving student learning outcomes in class X TKJ SMK N 1 Bantul. This study is a quasi-experimental research (quasi) with a pattern of non-equivalent group design. The subjects were students of class X TKJ semester of academic year 2016/2017, amounting to 31 people per class. The experimental group was given treatment PBL learning method and the control group using conventional methods on the subjects of the operating system. The results of the assignment to the class using the PBL method indicates there is an increased ability of the students analytical skills, which consists of identifying problems, collect data, analyze the data, and solving them. Data analysis skills is processed with the help of Microsoft Excel, pretest and posttest data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test with SPSS 20. The result of the calculation shows the difference between classroom learning with PBL method and Conventional classes as measured by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, significance value obtained amounted to 0,037 (less than 0.05) then H0 is rejected. Calculation of the average N-class PBL gain score of 57.26%, this means the use of PBL method is quite effective in improving learning outcomes in subjects operating systems class X TKJ SMK Negeri 1 Bantul.
