THE NARRATOLOGY STUDY OF CORNELIA FUNKE’S “RECKLESS - STEINERNES FLEISCH”

Abstract


 

This research aims to describe: (1) plot, (2) focalization, (3) position and function of the narrator in the novel Reckless – Steinernes Fleisch by Cornelia Funke. This research uses an objective approach by utilizing narratology theory from Gérard Genette. The object of this research is Reckless – Steinernes Fleisch by Cornelia Funke that was published by Cecilie Dressler Verlag Hamburg in 2010 and consists of 347 pages. The data were collected through reading and note-taking. The data analysis occupied narrative analysis technique. The validity of the data was obtained through the semantic validity and expert judgement. The reliability of the data was attained through the intrarater and interrater. The results of the research are: (1) this novel has a chronological plot with 164 sequences and 50 major functions, (2) this novel is told with variable internal focalization, (3) through the persona analysis, the narration of this novel is heterodiegetic, the narrator is an author-narrator and has five functions, namely narrative function, directing function, communication function, testimonial function and ideological function.
