AN ANALYSIS OF “METAMORFOSIS” (ERZÄHLUNG) AS THE RESULT OF THE TRANSLATION OF DIE VERWANDLUNG BY FRANZ KAFKA

Abstract


This research aims to describe the type of the translation, which dominates ‘Metamorfosis’ (Erzählung) as the translation of Die Verwandlung by Franz Kafka and the degree of meaning equivalence in ‘Metamorfosis’. The Object of this research are words, phrases and sentences in both of the texts, in which the data are contained. This research used a descriptive–qualitative and padan-translational method. The instrument of this study was the researcher herself. The data trustworthiness is tested by an expert judgment. The data showed that the communicative translation dominated the translation of the Erzählung Metamorfosis. The data set also consisted of 1014 data. 437 data of them were found to be fully equivalent, 124 data were given partly equivalent translation involved increased meaning and 143 data involved decreased meaning. Meanwhile 310 data were not equivalent with 271 data comprising different meanings and 39 data involved no meaning equivalent because most of them are completely left untranslated.
