READER RESPONSE IN SHORT STORY DOKTER JAGAD BY KUSWAHYO SS RAHARJO (Reader Response Study of 20 Students Java Language Education FBS UNY Year 2014)

Abstract


The aim of this study is to describe the reception of  college students Java Language Education as respondents on the aspects of the theme, fact the story and the horizon of expectation to a short story Dhokter Jagad by Kuswahyo SS Raharjo. This study including experimental research. Subject of this study is 20 reception of college students Java Language Education of year 2014. Determine the sample by random sampling. Collecting data with opened questionnaires and closed questionnaires. Validity of data by expert judgement. Reliability coefficient 0,643. Data analysis using quantitative and qualitative descriptive method. Result of this study show that: (1) college students provide advice and assessment on four aspects (theme, plot, characterization, and settings) in opened and closed questionnaires. (a) aspect of theme, many college students argue that theme of this short story is unique with reason rarely encountered in other short stories; (b) aspect of plot, many college students argue that plot in this short story is good and obvious with reason easy to understand; (c) aspect of characterization, many college students argue that characterization in this short story is good with reason attracts the reader’s emotions by the conversation, and (d) aspect of settings, many college students argue that settings in this short story is interesting with reason simple, obvious, and compendious. (2) horizon of expectation of respondents in this study is college students of Java Language Education of year 2014.
