THE ROLE OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT IN MAINTAINING RELIGIOUS HARMONY IN YOGYAKARTA

Abstract


ABSTRACT

This study aims  to reveal the  role of the city government in maintaining religious harmony. This research was a descriptive research with the approach of qualitative. The determination technique of this  research’s subject was the purposive, and the data were collected through interviewing and documenting. The validaty of this research was crosscheck technique. The data were analysed throught interactive, include following : data collection, data reducting, data display, data presenting and data  concluding.  The  conclusion  of  this  study  revealed  that:  1) the  role of government the city of Yogyakarta in maintaining religious harmony  include; a) as facilitator governments empowering and facilitating Religious Unity Forum (FKUB) and facilitate students, civic organizations and religious figures in the program love the  motherland and the establishment of  nationalism. b) as coordinator, the government hosted a meeting of coordination with FKUB, coordination with agencies of  the  government,  the  construction  and  vertical  coordination    headman  in  the deliberation development plan (Musrembang) and the related coordination of conflict resolution. 2) the obstacles  by the government in maintaining religious harmony; the lack   of a   level  of public   awareness in  keeping  the stability  of security  and to minimize the   occurrence   of social  conflict, lack   of budget distribution to   FKUB and media coverages overload. 3) government's efforts in overcoming these obstacles is a meeting Forum of coordination with the intermingling of nationalities (FPK) inYogyakarta, meeting coordination  with  the Forum   Early Vigilance society (FKDM) of Yogyakarta, meeting coordination with Regional Intelligence Communication Forum (Forkominda) of   the   city and   meeting   regular   with   an integrated Team of social Disorder.
