EFEKTIVITAS METODE SQ3R (SURVEY, QUESTION, READ, RECITE, REVIEW) TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN READING COMPREHENSION WACANA BAHASA INGGRIS SISWA KELAS X SEMESTER GENAP SMA NEGERI 6 YOGYAKARTA

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan metode SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read,
Recite, Review) terhadap kemampuan reading comprehension wacana bahasa Inggris siswa Kelas X
Semester Genap SMA Negeri 6 Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian quasi eksperimen, dengan
desain penelitian Non-equivalent Control Group Design. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X8
yang berjumlah 23 siswa sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan siswa kelas X9 yang berjumlah 23 siswa
sebagai kelompok kontrol. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode tes (pre-test dan
post-test), metode observasi, dan dokumentasi. Validitas butir instrumen tes diuji menggunakan korelasi
product moment, sedangkan untuk reliabilitas instrumen diuji menggunakan rumus K-R 20. Analisis data
dilakukan secara kuantitatif yakni menggunakan perhitungan uji-t (t-test). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan
hasil uji-t skor pre-test (tes awal) diperoleh nilai thitung lebih kecil dari ttabel (0,127 < 2,021) dan
memperoleh taraf signifikansi lebih besar dari 0,05 (0,900 > 0,05), sehingga Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak.
Selain itu, terdapat perbedaan rata-rata skor pre-test antara kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol
sebesar 0,347. Sedangkan, hasil uji-t pada skor post-test diperoleh nilai thitung lebih besar dari ttabel (4,485 >
2,021) dan memperoleh taraf signifikansi lebih kecil dari 0,05 (0,000 < 0,05), sehingga Ha diterima dan
Ho ditolak. Selain itu, terdapat perbedaan rata-rata antara kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol
sebesar 6,956. Dari hasil beberapa analisis tersebut, maka hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan
metode SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) efektif terhadap kemampuan reading
comprehension siswa.

Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review)
on the ability of English reading comprehension with grade X students at SMA Negeri 6 Yogyakarta. Type of this
research is a quasi experimental study with the study design is Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The subjects
were X8 grade students with a total of 23 students as experimental group and X9 grade students with a total of 23
students as a control group. Data collection techniques used were testing (pre-test and post-test), observation, and
documentation. The validity of the test instruments were tested using product moment correlation, while the
reliability of the instrument was tested using the formula KR 20. The data were analyzed using the quantitative
calculation of the t-test (t-test). The results showed that t-test results pre-test scores (initial test) obtained tcount
smaller than ttable (0.127 <2.021) and acquired greater significance level of 0.05 (0.900> 0.05,) thus the Ha was
accepted and Ho rejected. Moreover, there were differences in the average pre-test scores between the
experimental group and the control group at 0.347. Meanwhile, the t-test results obtained tcount post-test scores
greater than ttable (4.485> 2.021) and acquired a significance level of less than 0.05 (0.000 <0.05) thus the Ha was
accepted and Ho was rejected. Moreover, there was an average difference between the experimental group and the
control group at 6.956. From the result of the analysis, so the results showed that the application of the method
SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) is effective toward student's reading comprehension ability.
