THE INFLUENCE OF APPLICATION OF PORTFOLIO-BASED LEARNING METHODS ON STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN LEARNING CIVIC EDUCATION

Abstract


This research aims to analyze the effect of the application of the method of portfolio-based learning on student participation in learning Civics Class VII SMP Negeri 2 Yogyakarta.

This type of research is a quasi experiment with two group posttest only control design. The population in this research is the entire class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Yogyakarta, which amounted to 238 students. Sampling technique was simple random sampling. The results of the draw were Class VII E as class experiments amounted to 34 students on a portfolio-based learning methods and classes VII B as a class of controls amounted to 34 students with varied lecturing method (discussions). Data collection techniques were observation, unstructured interviews and documentation. Hypothesis was tested by t test, previously done tests of normality test prerequisite and its homogeneity test to analyze the results of observations.

The results showed that the application of portfolio-based learning methods that include problem identification, choosing a problem to study classes, collect information about the issues that will be examined, develop a portfolio class, presenting a portfolio (showcase), and reflections of influential learning experience significantly to increase participation of studying Civics Class VII SMP Negeri 2 Yogyakarta comparing lecturing. It was indicated by the t-count of t-table and value at 13.356 level of significance of 5% of 2.000. The value of thitung > ttabel (13.356 > 2,000), or the value of p is smaller than 0.05 (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Percentage of participation of study experiments class include: emotional activities (83,3%), listening activities (97,2%), visual activities (were 95.5%), writing activities (91,7%), drawing activities (83,3%), oral activities (91.4%) and mental activities (87.5%). While those of learning participation percentage of the control class include: emotional activities (79,2%), listening activities (85,6%), visual activities (70,8%), writing activities (66,7%), drawing activities (50%), oral activities (72,5%) and mental activities (70,8%).
