THE IMPLEMENTATION EFFECT OF DISCUSSION METHOD ON CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS STUDENTS IN PANCASILA AND CIVIC EDUCATION SUBJECT IN KARANGMOJO ISLAMIC STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (MTS NEGERI KARANGMOJO)

ABSTRACT

This study aims to describe the effect of discussion method implementation  on students critical thinking skills in Pancasila and Civic Education subjects in Karangmojo Islamic State Junior High School (MTs Negeri Karangmojo). This type of research is quasi-experiment. The reseach design two-group-pretest-posttest design. The population in this reseach were the students of 8th grade of Karangmojo Islamic State Junior High School (MTs Negeri Karangmojo) with a total of 113 students. The sampling method is taken by random. Two classes to become simple class experiment (VIIID) are 20 students and control class (VIIIE) are 19 students. The instrument used is questionnaire on critical thinking ability. The validity test of instrument class used in this research is the Product Moment formula, and the reliability test instrument with Alpha Cronbach formula. The normality test of variables was using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, while homogeneity was tested by Levene Statistics, data analysis using T-test with a significance level of 5%. The results from the study showed that, there is a significant effect the  implimentation of discussion method on students critical thinking skills in Pancasila and Civic Education at Karangmojo Islamic State Junior High School (MTs Negeri Karangmojo). The significant of implementation of discussion method to critical thinking skills can be proved by the T-test that conducted on the experimental class and control class questionnaire scores. The results of the statistical T-test showed that the T-value is greater than the value of T-Table (7.413 > 2.128 )with a significance level of 5%. It is also proved that the results of this study indicate that there is a difference of critical thinking skills in the control class and experiment class after the intervention of the discussion method (pre test) with a significance value of 0.034 (Sig. <0.05) and before the intervention of discussion method (post test ) With a value of 0.040 (Sig. <0.05) and the effectiveness of the application of the discussion method on the control class (gain score = 0.4) and the experimental class (gain score = 0.4) included into the medium category.
