THE RULES OF CIVICS EDUCATION AS POLITICAL EDUCATION IN ISLAMIC BASED SCHOOL (CASE STUDY AT PONDOK PESANTREN SUNAN PANDANARAN SLEMAN, YOGYAKARTA)

The purpose of this study is to understand (1) the role of civic education as political education in Islamic based school, (2) the problems faced by the role of civic education as political education (3) the applicable solutions for the problems of the role of civic education as a political education (4) the special characteristic of political education, in Madrasah Aliyah Sunan Pandanaran (MASPA) which are under Sunan Pandanaran boarding school Sleman, Yogyakarta. This research employs a qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The study was conducted in February 2016 to October 2016. The subject of the research determined by using purposive sampling, they are the headmaster, Civic education teacher, boarding school caretaker, boarding school administrator, and students who attended MASPA. The research uses observation, interviews, and documentation as the data collection techniques. To gain the data trustworthiness, the researcher employs triangulation techniques. The data analysis uses inductive data analysis techniques. The results of the study shows that: 1). The role of civic education as a political education in MASPA used as political socialization to students so that the political orientation and political culture should be appropriate with what have been taught by religion and emphasize how to be good citizens, have a culture of participant 2). Problems faced by MASPA in the role of civic education as political education is more likely at the lack of access to information coming to the boarding school, the availability of textbooks, facilities to support learning process, minimal learning methods of teachers, madrasah regulation for teachers not to burden the students, the teacher of civic education that is not from civic education background, and the hours proportion of the lesson that are only one hour lesson for one week for each class. 3). The applicable solutions to overcome the problems in the role of civic education as political education in MASPA are maximizing the learning sources, using more varied methods, recruit new teachers that has accordance in the educational background of the subject. 4). The special characteristic of political education in MASPA are the policy of Kiai in welcoming the prospective head region or board members who visited the boarding school (according to the value of religious and national values in the first and the third principle of Pancasila), civic education as the learning media of democracy in boarding school to teach political values.
