THE USE OF INTERNET AS THE LEARNING MEDIA FOR PANCASILA AND CIVIC EDUCATION SUBJECT AT SMA NEGERI 1 SLEMAN

This study aims to describe: (1) the use of internet as the learning media for Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn); (2) the model of internet used as the learning media for PPKn; (3) the learning materials of PPKn presented through internet; (4) the problems faced during the use of internet as the learning media for PPKn; and (5) the efforts from teachers and school related to the use of internet as the learning media for PPKn. This is a descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subject of this research was determined through purposive technique with the following criteria: students who were active during the teaching and learning process and recommended by PPKn teachers, teachers teaching PPKn, and vice principal for school curriculum affairs as a policy-maker for teaching and learning process at SMA Negeri 1 Sleman. The data were collected through interview with 24 research subjects and through documentation. The data validity was examined by cross check technique. Then, the obtained data were analysed. The results from data analysis were presented in a descriptive way. The results show that: (1) the use of internet as the learning media for PPKn is optimum because the interactions between teacher and learning source; teacher and students; and students and learning source run smoothly; (2) the model of internet used as the learning media for PPKn is in the form of assignment given by the teacher; students are asked to search for, learn, and share materials to enrich the limited materials from the books and student worksheet (LKS); (3) almost all the PPKn learning materials can be presented through internet; for example, the materials related to law, civil rights and obligations, democracy and tolerance; (4) the technical problems related to the use of internet are power cut, limited device, and troubled internet connection; while the non-technical problems include those faced by students when they access websites and get irrelevant information instead; (5) the efforts from teachers and school related to the use of internet as the learning media include fixing the internet connection problems, providing computer and multimedia laboratories, rejuvenating the network components, buying a genset, applying the wi-fi logging in, and doing personal approach to the students by guiding and giving them understanding provided that they access the irrelevant sites.
