POLITICAL EDUCATION STUDENT MOVEMENT IN CREATING MUSLIM STATESMAN CADRE (CASE STUDY IN KESATUAN AKSI MAHASISWA MUSLIM INDONESIA (KAMMI) REGIONAL SLEMAN PERIOD 2013-2014)
Abstract
Political education is the awareness and political maturation of the community members are expected to become “melek politik". Political education is essential given to the next generation and the government must facilitate it. One means of implementing political education for students is an organization KAMMI (Indonesian Muslim Student Action Union). The purpose of this study is to determine the concept of political education that conducted by KAMMI to create a cadre with Muslim statesman oriented, along with the obstacles in its implementation.
The subject of the study is KAMMI Regional Sleman consisting of: (1) Chairman; (2) Secretary; (3) Treasurer; (4) The head of the Division; (5) Regeneration and Human Resource Division; and (6) Public Policy Division. The object of this research is the concept of political education, the implementation of political education, and obstacles in the implementation of political education conducted by KAMMI in creating a Muslim statesman cadre. Data collection technique used observation, documentation and interview. Data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative analysis consists of three steps of activities that take place simultaneously: data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. These techniques are used as a reference to facilitate the writing of the results of research in understanding the description which is presented as the final results of the research to give a proper understanding.
The results showed that (1) the concept of political education in KAMMI represents the initial steps undertaken by the Islamic movement to the Muslim activist, so that they have the readiness to engage in political institutions. KAMMI’s political education background is taken from the concept of syumuliatul Islam or the perfection of Islam. (2) KAMMI’s programs as a means of political education of students are Daurah Marhalah, Daurah siyasi and aksi KAMMI. The divisions that have responsibility in the implementation of political education are Regeneration and Human Resource Division and Public Policy Division. (3) Factors that inhibit KAMMI in the implementation of political education for students consist of internal and external factors. Internal factors include the source of funds and conflict of timing of activities between the organizations with external campus activities and internal campus activities. External factors are the obstacles are the lack of student awareness of the importance of political education and pragmatic attitude of students.
