PERBEDAAN METODE ROTATING TRIO EXCHANGE (PERTUKARAN TIGA MEMUTAR) DAN METODE BUZZ GROUP TERHADAP KEAKTIFAN SISWA PADA PEMBELAJARAN IPS DI SMP NEGERI 2 PLERET BANTUL

Abstract


The research backgrounds are the lack of variations in teaching methods that teachers use in Social Studies learning and the availability of the Rotating Trio Exchange method and the Buzz Group method that can improve students’ activeness. This study aimed to investigate whether or not there was a significant difference in the activeness between the students receiving a treatment of the Rotating Trio Exchange method and those receiving a treatment of the Buzz Group method in Social Studies learning at SMP Negeri 2 Pleret.

This was a quasi-experimental study using the pretest-posttest nonequivalent multiple-group design. The research population comprised all students of Grade VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Pleret in the 2015/2016 academic year and the sample consisted of Grade VIII E as experimental class 1 and Grade VIII G as experimental class 2. The sample was selected by means of the random sampling technique. The research instruments included a questionnaire for students’ activeness and an observation sheet for the learning implementation. The instrument validity was assessed by the product moment formula and the reliability by the Cronbach’s Alpha formula. The data analysis technique was the independent sample t-test.

The results of the t-test showed that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted so that it could be concluded that there was a significant difference in the activeness between the students receiving a treatment of the Rotating Trio Exchange method and those receiving a treatment of the Buzz Group method. The results of the questionnaire in experimental class 1 using the Rotating Trio Exchange method were higher than those in experimental class 2 using the Buzz Group method so that it could be concluded that the Rotating Trio Exchange method was better at improving students’ activeness in Social Studies learning.
