GAYA BELAJAR PESERTA OLIMPIADE SAINS NASIONAL IPS SMP TINGKAT NASIONAL DI PROVINSI DAERAH ISTIMEWA YOGYAKARTA TAHUN 2010-2015
Abstract
This study aimed to find out the learning styles of participants of the National Science Olympiad of Social
Studies for the junior high school (JHS) in the national level in Yogyakarta Special Region in 2010-2015. This was
a quantitative study. The research variable was the learning styles of participants of the National Science Olympiad
of Social Studies for JHS. The research population comprised the participants of the National Science Olympiad of
Social Studies for JHS in the national level in the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region in 2010-2015 with a total
of 34 students. The data were collected through a questionnaire. The validity was assessed by the product moment
correlation indicating that the instrument was valid. The reliability was assessed by Cronbach’s Alpha indicating a
reliability index of 0.831. The data were analyzed by means of the descriptive statistical technique. The results of
the study showed that the majority (52.9%) of the participants of the Social Studies Olympiad had the visual
learning style. 44% of the respondents with the visual learning style were in the very high category, 45% in the
high category, 11% in the moderate category, and no respondent in the low and very low categories. 26.5% of the
olympiad participants had the auditory learning style. 56% of the respondents with the auditory learning style were
in the moderate category and 44% in the high category. No respondent was in the very high, low, and very low
categories. 20.6% of the olympiad participants had the kinesthetic learning strategy. 43% of the respondents with
the kinesthetic learning strategy were in the moderate and high categories. 14% were in the very high category and
no respondent in the low and very low categories.
