Abstract
The research background is the availability of the Giving Question and Getting Answer method and the Question Student Have method capable of improving students’ learning outcomes. This study aimed to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in learning outcomes between the students learning through the Giving Question and Getting Answer method and those learning through the Question Student Have method at SMPN 2 Garnping. This was a quasi-experimental study using the Pretest-Posttest, Nonequivalent Multiple-Group design. The population comprised all students of Grade VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Gamping in the 2015/2016 academic year. The sample consisted of Grade VIII B as experimental class 1 and Grade VIII D as experimental class 2. The sample was selected by means of the random sampling technique. The data collection technique was a test. The data were collected through objective multiple choice tests. The instrument validity was assessed by the product moment and the reliability by Cronbach’s Alpha. Tests of analysis assumptions were a normality test using Kolmogorov-Smirnov and a homogeneity test using Levene Test. The data were analyzed by means of the t-test (independent samples t-test). The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the learning outcomes between the students receiving a treatment using the Giving Question and Getting Answer method and those receiving a treatment using the Question Student Have method. The results of the t-test (independent samples t-test) on the posttest scores showed tobserved > ttable (4.283 > 1.661) and a significance value < 0.05, namely sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05. This indicated that the class receiving a treatment using the Giving Question and Getting Answer method attained higher learning outcomes. This was caused by the fact that the students were more enthusiastic and understood the materials more than those learning through the Question Student Have method.
