TANGGAPAN SISWA KELAS XI SMA TERHADAP NOVEL LASKAR PELANGI KARYA ANDREA HIRATA
Abstract
This study aimed to describe the response of high school students toward Laskar
Pelangi Novel written by Andrea Hirata and to describe the background of horizon of
expectation students. This study used experimental method. The subjects were students in
grade XI IPS1 from SMA N 3 Bantul. The sampling technique using simple random
sampling. Data collection technique used questionnaire instrument by Rien T. Segers. Data
analyzed with descriptive statistic used SPPS 22.0. The instruments validated by an expert
judgment. The result showed that the response of high school grade XI toward Laskar
Pelangi Novel included in intermediate category. This result got from category and
evaluation data toward intellectual aspect (theme, point of view, plot, character, title,
setting, and style) and emotional aspect (involvement and emotion, proclivity, originality,
affected feeling, and belief of ability). The background of horizon of expectation students
also included in intermediate category. It is because of student’s knowledge, experience,
and comprehension which good enough about literature especially Laskar Pelangi. In other
words, horizon of expectation students can fulfill or appropriate the meaning of Andrea
Hirata’s novel.
