UPAYA MENINGKATAN KETERAMPILAN BERMAIN DRAMA DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN METODE SOSIODRAMA PADA SISWA KELAS XI-IPA 1 SMA NEGERI 1 KRETEK BANTUL
Abstract
This study aimed to improve the drama performing skill using the sociodrama
method for students of Grade XI of Science 1 of SMA Negeri 1 Kretek, Bantul.
This was a classroom action research (CAR) study. The research subjects
were students of Grade XI of Science 1 of SMA Negeri 1 Kretek, Bantul, in the
2015/2016 academic year, with a total of 25 students. The study consisted of two
cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and
reflection. The data were collected by a questionnaire, interviews, observations, and
documentation of learning activities. The data were analyzed by the qualitative
descriptive technique supported by the quantitative data. The data trustworthiness was
enhanced by validity (process, outcome, democratic, and dialogic) and reliability.
The results of the study showed that the sociodrama method was capable of
improving the drama performing skill of students of Grade XI of Science 1 of SMA
Negeri 1 Kretek, Bantul. This was based on the results of the observations on the
students in the pre-action with a mean score of 18.84 (31.4%), which improved to
44.28 (73.8%) in Cycle I and 49.6 (82.67%) in Cycle II. From Cycle I to Cycle II the
improvement was 5.32 (8.87%). The improvement of the students’ drama performing
skill from the pre-action to Cycle II was 30.76 (51.27%). In addition, the drama
learning process also improved. Before the action was implemented, the students
were shy to express, not active enough, often joked with other students, and still
hesitated to play characters’ roles so that the roles were not maximally played. After
the action was implemented, the students were able to express and more active. The
learning process became conducive and the students did not hesitate anymore to play
characters’ roles and even they were able to improvise to play characters’ roles.

Negeri 1 Kretek, Bantul, improved in terms of the process and the outcome after the
action of using the sociodrama method was implemented.
