MINAT BACA SISWA KELAS XI SMK NEGERI 1 KEBUMEN TERHADAP NOVEL POPULER

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the students 'interest in reading, and describe the factors that support and hinder
students' interest in reading class XI SMK Negeri 1 Kebumen the popular novel. This study uses survey research.
The sampling technique using random sampling techniques. The sample in this study is a class XI student of SMK
Negeri 1 Kebumen were 200 students. Data collection techniques using instruments angket.Uji conducted by
validity and reliability testing. Data analysis technique used is quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed
that: (1) students read the popular novel in middle category. That is, basically the students liked to  read the
popular novel but rather because in order to do the work the school is not because it has interest in reading on the
popular novel. (2) The supporting factors and the factors inhibiting the students' interest in reading in middle
category. That is, a lot of factors that support and hinder students' interest in growing interest in reading the
popular novel. The dominant factor is the environment that affects the culture of reading literature, reading
comprehension of literary works, the development of communication technology, and the obstacles that hinder the
habit of reading literature.
