### KEEFEKTIFAN STRATEGI K-W-L-A (KNOW-WANT-LEARN-AFFECT) DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MEMBACA PEMAHAMAN TEKS EKSPOSISI SISWA KELAS VII SMP NEGERI 1 TEMPEL

#### Abstract

This research has two purposes. First is to find out the difference of

reading ability in exposition text comprehension, which is significant between

students obtaining learning process through K-W-L-A strategy and those who

gaining the learning process through conventional strategy. Second is to examine

the effectiveness of K-W-L-A strategy compared to conventional one in reading

learning process of exposition text comprehension of students grade 7th

in SMP

Negeri 1 Tempel.

This research is conducted using quantitative approach, apparent

experimental method, and pretest-posttest control group research design. There

are two variables in this research: unbounded variable, which is the K-W-L-A

strategy and bounded variable, which is the ability in reading exposition text

comprehension. Populations in this research are the students grade 7th

of SMP

Negeri 1 Tempel. The determination of sample uses cluster random sampling

technique, in which Class 7th

B has been chosen as the controller group and Class

7th

C as the experiment group. The validities of the instrument usedare content

validity and construct validity. Content validity is done by expert judgement, and

construct validity uses Iteman program. Reliability examination in this research

uses Alpha Cronbach formula in Iteman program. The data are collected using a

test in the form of multiple choices. The data analysis technique uses t-test in

SPSS version 22.0-computer program with significanceof standard 5%. Analysis

prerequisite test result shows that pretest and posttest score distribute normal and

homogeny.

The research result shows that, firstly, there is a different ability of reading

comprehension in exposition text, which is significant between students who gain

learning using K-W-L-A strategy and those who gaining the learning process

through conventional strategy. The difference is shown with t-test result in which

t is 5,434, df 62, and p value is 0,000 (p<0,05=significant). Secondly, K-W-L-A

strategy is effectively proved in reading learning process in exposition text

comprehension for students grade 7th

in SMP Negeri 1 Tempel. This is shown by

experiment group t-test result in which t is 23,900, df 31, dan p is 0,000 (p<0,05).

In addition, the average gain score of controller group is 0,96, and experiment

group is 4,41 (KE>KK=effective).
