KEEFEKIFAN STRATEGI GMA (GROUP MAPPING ACTIVITY) DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MEMAHAMI TEKS DESKRIPSI PADA SISWA KELAS VII SMPN 15 YOGYAKARTA
Abstract
The aim of this research is: 1)to determine the significant differences of
the understanding ability to a descriptive text between students who learn using
Group Mapping Activity (GMA) strategy and students who learn without GMA
strategy in class VII SMPN 15 Yogyakarta; and 2) to determine the effectiveness
of the GMA strategy in understanding the descriptive text for the VII Grade
Student of SMPN 15 Yogyakarta.
The type of this research is a quantitative research with a quasi-
experimental methods and Pretest and Posttest Control Group research design.
The variables in this research are independent variables and the dependent
variable. The independent variable in this research is a GMA strategy and the
dependent variable is the students' ability to understanding the text. The
determination of the sample was using random sampling method. The technique is
based on specified class VII E as a control group and class VII F as the test group.
Data was collected using test. Data collection instrument is using a multiple
choice objective test. To test the validity of this research, the researcher was using
content validity and construct validity. Instrument reliability was calculated using
Cronbach Alpha formula. Data were analyzed using t-test with a significance level
of 5% (0.05).
Test results analysis of pretest and posttest score of both group is a normal
distribution and homogeneous. Based on t-test analysis of the final test data is the
understanding ability of a descriptive text of the two groups is obtained thitung of
2,355, db = 65, and P of 0.022 (P <0.005). These results indicate that there are
significant differences in the understanding ability of a descriptive text between
students who learn using GMA strategy and students who learn without GMA
strategy for VII grade student of SMPN 15 Yogyakarta. Based ont-test analysis of
the pretests and posttest of the test group, obtained thitung of 6.498, db = 33, and P
of 0.000 (P <0.05). The results also showed the differences in the increasing of
average score that is 1.30 in the control group and 2.33 in the test group. These
results suggest that learning to understanding the descriptive text using GMA
strategy is more effective than learning to understanding the descriptive text
without using GMA strategy.
