Abstract
This research is aimed to (1) prove a difference of the ability to write
exposition of the grade x students of a SMA N 1 Sleman who follow the learning
using QUIP strategy and the students who follow the learning without using
QUIP strategy, (2) to examine the effectivness of QUIP strategy
in the learning of writing exposition of the grade x students of SMA N 1 Sleman.
This paper is a quantitative research by using experimental researh
method. It also use pretest posttest control group as the research design.
Population of the research is grade X student in SMA N 1 Sleman.
Based on cluster random sampling technique, X6 class determine as the
experimental group and X1 class as the control group. Data are taken through
pretest and posttest. Content validity supports the research validity.Data analysis
technique uses T-test with 5% significance level. Before analyze the data, it is
important to examine the prerequisite analysis first by normality distribution
andhhomogeneity variance test. SPSS 22.0 (computer software) shows that
pretest and posttest data have normal distribution and homogeneous.
T-arithmatic value on 3,488 with db 62 and p on 0,001 (p<0, 05)
obtained from T-test analysis on posttest data of control group and experimental
group. Thus, tcount score is greater than ttable score (3,488 < 1,999) and p score p
is smaller than 0,05 (p = 0,001> 0,05) which means on the significancy. Gain
score obtained experimental group of 13.50, while the control group gain score
of 9.56. The calculation results showed that the experimental group gain higher
scores than the control group. The result brings to the conclusion that (1) there
is a significant differences in exposition writing ability between the group that is
taught using QUIP strategy and those which is taught without using QUIP
strategy. (2) QUIP strategy is an effective way to teaching exposition writing
of the grade x students of a SMA N 1 Sleman.
Keywords: question into paragraphs (QUIP) strategy, write exposition.
