Abstract

This research aims to: (1) find out if there is differences of ability in writing
news text, which is significant between students gaining learning process using
Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) strategy and students who
learns without the strategy from VIII  grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Godean, (2)
test the effectiveness of using CIRC strategy in a learning writing news text for VIII
grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Godean.
This research is a quantitative research with experimental method. The used
research design is pretest-posttest control group design. Populations of the research
are all of 192  eight  grades  students of SMP Negeri 3 Godean. The sample
determination technique uses simple random sampling strategy. The result is
determined by class VIII B as the controller group and class VIII A as the experiment
group. The validity test is done by the expert judgement. Reliability test in this
research uses Alpha Cronbach formula in SPSS version 16.0 program and obtains
alpha value as much as 0,719. The data is collected using writing news text test. The
analysis prerequisite test result shows that pretest and posttest score distribute normal
and homogeny. The used data analysis technique is t-test in SPSS version 16.0-
computer program with significance standard 5%.
The research results show that, firstly, there is different ability in writing news
text, which is significant between students who gain the learning process using CIRC
strategy and those who do not. The difference is shown through t-test result, in which
it is 2,992, df 62, and p value is 0,004 (p<0,05=significant). Secondly, CIRC strategy
is effectively proved in writing news text learning process for VIII grade students of
SMP Negeri 3 Godean. It is shown by t-test pretest and posttest of experiment group,
in which taccount is 20,880 with df 31 and the p value is 0,000  at error level 0,05 (5%).
In addition, the average gain score of experiment group is 3,91 and controller group is
0,72.
