Abstract

This study was aimed to  (1)  prove the existence of differences in the
ability to write text on a short story of students who take the learning using
modeling strategies with students who take the conventional learning, and (2) this
study has the objective to prove the effectiveness of modeling strategy in teaching
writing short story text in class X SMA.
This  study belongs  a kind of quasi-experimental study using research
design  Pretest-Posttest  Control  Group  Design.  Population in this study were
students of class X of SMA Negeri 1 Sanden is divided into 7 classes. Samples
were students as an experimental class X1 and X3 as the control class. The study
sample selected using simple random sampling technique. Instruments used in this
study is assessment guidelines to write a short story text.  Validity is content
validity performed by experts that the supervisor. Data analysis of the results of
research carried out using t-test for related samples and t-test for independent
samples were calculated using the computer program SPSS version 21.0.
The results of the study showed that there is a positive and significant
difference between the ability to write text on a short story of students who take
the learning using modeling strategies with students who take the conventional
learning, it is shown by the results of the calculation of the t-test for independent
samples in the form of scores tcount  than  ttable  (th=2,681 > ttb=2,052)  at a
significance level of  5% (0.05)  and  df  54.  Effective modeling strategy used in
learning to write short story text, it is shown by the results of the calculation of the
t-test for related  samples in the form of scores tcount  than ttable  (th=21,916 >
ttb=2,052) at the significance level of 5% (0.05) and df 27.

Key Words: effectiveness, modeling strategy, writing short story.
