THE GERMAN EMPHATIC PARTICLE “DENN” AND ITS EQUIVALENT IN BAHASA INDONESIA

Abstract


The aim of this research to description are (1) the form of the German emphatic particle “denn” in “Ein Mann für Mama” and its equivalent in bahasa Indonesia, and (2) the function of the German emphatic particle “denn” in “Ein Mann für Mama” and its equivalent in bahasa Indonesia. This research is descriptive-qualitative. The object of this research is all of lingual unit which contain the German emphatic particle “denn” in “Ein Mann für Mama” and its equivalent in bahasa Indonesia. The sources of this research is roman Ein Mann für Mama and roman Suami untuk Mama. Data collection was taken through read-note technique. Analyze datas used pragmatic method and translational method. The instrument of this research is human instrument. The expert judgement to validity the result of this research. The result are, (1) the German emphatic particle “denn” have equivalent in bahasa Indonesia, (a) there are 11 datas of phatic particle sih, (b) there are four datas of emphatic particle ­–kah, (c) the conjunction kalau begitu has one data, the conjunction yang have two datas, the conjunction waktu itu has one data, and the conjunction lalu have two datas, (d) the adverb saja has one data, the adverb ternyata has one data, and the adverb sebenarnya has one data, (e) zero equivalent (has not equivalent) have 27 datas. (2) the function of the German emphatic particle “denn” are, (a) as strengthening interogative sentences, (b) as repetition interogative sentences because dissatisfaction with previous answers, (c) as softing interogative sentences, (d) to express doubts.
