THE COMPARISON OF THE CHARACTERIZATION AND THE MORALES OF FRAU HOLLE’S FOLKTALE AND THOSE OF BAWANG MERAH BAWANG PUTIH : A COMPARATIVE LITERARY STUDY

Abstract

This study aimed to describe 1) The similarities and differences in disposition Frau Holle and the fabled Bawang Merah Bawang Putih. 2) The moral values contained in fairy tales and fairy tale of Frau Holle and the fabled Bawang Merah Bawang Putih. This study uses the approach of comparative literature.Data analyses technique used were descriptive qualitative techniquesThe results of the study are as follows. (1) Comparative characterization of Girl figure I and Bawang Putih figure were good-natured, diligent, unyielding, honest, sincere and not greedy. (2) Comparative figures dispositive Girl II and Bawang Merah character is lazy, greedy, self-interest, arrogant, ignorant, hypocritical, angry, arbitrary, cunning, selfish, ungrateful, and impatient. (3). Comparative characterization of mother of Girl II and Mother of Bawang Merah were cruel, arbitrary, clever, hypocritical, grumpy, lazy, greedy and cunning. (4). Comparative characterization of Frau Holle and grandmother figures characters are good-natured and keeping promises. (5) the form of moral value contained in both the fairy tale were three items, namely human morality himself that is responsible, sincerely, and idler, human morality with other people that help each other, arbitrary, greedy, and human morality with God that man will be punished or rewarded according to what we do. In both these tales did not find any human morality with nature.
