JIGSAWS FOR IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ GERMAN READING SKILL IN SMA NEGERI 1 MINGGIR SLEMAN

Abstract


This study aims to improve (1) the German reading skills for the X-3 class students of SMA Negeri 1 Minggir Sleman through Jigsaw method and (2) the learners’ activity for the X-3 class students of SMA Negeri 1 Minggir Sleman through the application of Jigsaw method. The type of this study is the classroom action research (CAR) which consisted by 2 cycles. Each cycle consisted by 4 phases, those are planning, action, observation, and reflection. This study was colaboratively done by the researcher, the German teacher, and the students of the X-3 class of SMA Negeri 1 Minggir Sleman. The subject of this study was the students of X-3 classof SMA Negeri 1 Minggir Sleman which consisted of 31 students. The data for this study were obtained through interviews, observations, quetionnaries, field notes, German reading skills test and documentation. The data were analysed by using the qualitative descriptive analysis. The result of this study indicates the improvement of (1) German reading skills for the X-3 class students of SMA Negeri 1 Minggir Sleman through the Jigsaw method 38.38% and (2) the learners’ activity for the X-3 class students of SMA Negeri 1 Minggir Sleman through the application of Jigsaw method 42.06%.
