AN EFFORT IN IMPROVING THE SPEAKING SKILL IN GERMAN FOR THE TENTH GRADERS OF THE SOCIAL CLASS OF MAN YOGYAKARTA 2 THROUGH THE SNOWBALL THROWING TECHNIQUE

Abstract


This study aims to: improve the activity of speaking and learning achievement of German speaking skill of class X IPS 1 MAN Yogyakarta 2 through Snowball Throwing method. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK). The subjects of the study were students of class X IPS 1 MAN Yogyakarta 2 as many as 22 students. Methods of data collection using observation, interviews, and written tests. Data analysis techniques in this study using quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the research note that (1) Snowball Throwing method can increase the activity of speaking German language of class X IPS 1 MAN Yogyakarta 2. This is shown from the motivation of learners to increase from cycle I to cycle II. The increase gradually increased to reach above 36,36%, that is from pre action which only amounted to 40,91%, increase in cycle I become 56,06% then in cycle II more increase become 77,27%. (2) Snowball Throwing method can improve learning achievement of German speaking skill of class X IPS 1 MAN Yogyakarta 2. It is shown from the increase of students' learning mastery in the initial condition of students as much as 9 students (40,91%), in cycle I as many as 13 students (59.09%), and on the second cycle as many as 20 students (90.91%).
