THE INFLUENCE OF THE GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY MASTERY AND STUDENTS’ PARTICIPATION IN THEIR LEARNING OF WRITING IN GRADE XI OF SMA NEGERI 3 BANTUL

Abstract


This study aims to determine the influence of the grammar and vocabulary mastery and students’ participation toward their learning of writing in grade XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Bantul. The population in this study were students of class XI SMA Negeri 3 Bantul. Samples were taken by simple random sampling technique, in order to obtain amount 42 students. There were 3 free variables, namely grammar mastery (X1), vocabulary mastery (X2) and students’ participation (X3) and a dependent variable learning of German writing (Y). This study was an ex-post facto. The data were obtained using a questionnaires and tests. The validity of test using Pearson formula. In order to examine the validity of each instruments using content validity, construct validity and item test validity. In order to examine the reliability of each instruments using Cronbach Alpha formula.Data were analyzed using Product Moment correlation and multiple regression. The result of this study showed that the regressionlinie is Ŷ = -2,268 + 0,536 X1 + 0,838 X2+ 0,377 X3. The results showed that (1) there was significant influence of the grammar mastery to the learning of writing, (tcount = 4,448 > ttable= 2,018), (2) there was significant influence of the vocabulary mastery to the learning of German writing, (tcount = 3,981 > ttable= 2,018), (3) there was significant influence of the students’ participation to the learning of German writing, (tcount = 4,962 > ttable= 2,018), (4) there was significant influence of the grammar, vocabulary mastery and students’ participation together against to the learning of writing, (fcount = 19,145 > ftable= 2,852).
