INTRINSICS ELEMENT IN ERICH KÄSTNER’S KINDERROMAN “DAS FLIEGENDE KLASSENZIMMER” THROUGH A STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

Abstract


This study aims to describe (1) plot, character, setting and point of view (2) the relationship between the intrinsic elements in Erich Kästner’s Kinderroman Das fliegende Klassenzimmer. The data source of this study is the childern’s novel Das fliegende Klassenzimmer written by Erich Kästner and published by Verlag Cecilie Dressler, Hamburg, 2002. The data were collected through reading and note-taking. The data analysis occupied descriptive qualitative technique. The validity of the data was obtained through the semantic validity and expert judgement. The reliability of the data was attained through the semantic validity; interrater and intrater reliability; and it was also reinforced by Expert-Judgement validity. The results:(1) The storyline that consists of 43 sequences has a clear causality or logical relation.The Figure: Martin (courteous, diligent, a good painter, leader, thinker and justice lover), Johnny (still, poet, and adult), Matthias (is always hungry, to become world-Boxer champion ), Uli (nice and fearful), Sebastian (arrogant, fearful, lonely), Doktor Bökh (justice lover, strict), Nichtraucher (heavy smoker, nice and wise).Description of background element a) Structure points: the place that show the happening (gymnasium, Ergerlands basement, and site;), the place that show the character( porch of the dining room and gymnasium), the place that can show the character feel (Nichtraucher’s railway wagon, corner North Street, in Dormitory II, bowling alley, and at the train station), the place as the symbol (Thaler's home and non-smoking railway wagon); b) Background time: time of the day (morning, noon, afternoon, and evening), time of the year (23 December, 24 December, Christmas Eve, Winter) and phase life main charakter (teenager.) Description viewpoint author uses the third person perspective. (2)The relationship between intrinsic elements: As an interplay of structure and can not be separated from each other.
