Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describing the Junior Highs PPKn teachers’ difficulties in the learning process by implementing scientific approach based on curriculum 2013 in Sleman; and (2) know the efforts made by the Junior Highs PPKn teachers’ in solving the problem of using scientific approach in curriculum 2013 in Sleman. This research is a descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subjects are teachers using purposive technique, PPKn teachers in some schools in Sleman. The data collecting technique are using interview, observation, and documentation analysis. The data validity is checked using triangulation. The data is analyzed using inductive analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results shows that: (1) The Junior Highs PPKn teachers in Sleman are having difficulties in implementing the scientific approach. The difficulties are  a) observation, the teachers understanding about media is still low, so the students are not able to observe the learning media well; b) asking, the teachers is having difficulties to provoke the students to ask, it resulted in the students is still find it hard to ask; c) information gathering, the time management is not optimal yet so the students are not able to collect the information well; d) analyzing data, the wrong methods of delivering by the teachers makes students difficult to analyze the data; e) communicating, not all teachers can presenting their learning well and the students ability in argument delivery is still low.  (2) PPKn teachers’ efforts in overcoming the problem is varied. The efforts are a) motivation strengthening and spirit of students, b) giving chances to ask and to discuss, c)  freeing the students to find resources, d) presenting directly to the point and so on.
