THE USE OF COMIC AS LEARNING MEDIA TO IMPROVE STUDENT’S PARTICIPATION AND ACHIEVEMENT IN CIVICS

Abstract


This  research  was  aim  to  know the use of comic as  learning media to  improve student’s  participation  and  achievement  in  civics  at  eight’s  class  of Muhammadiyah Wates Junior High School. This was a quasi experiment research by a quantitative approach. This population research was eight class students. Sample taking technique used a Simple Random Sampling. Samples taken numbered 40 students out of 2 class. VIII A’s class as experiment class while VIII B’s class as control class. Experiment class use of comic as learning media. Control class use powerpoint as learning media. The measurement device of comic as learning media, were student participation paper and achievement test. The instrument validity test used expert judgment and Iteman program. The  media  validation  do  by  media  and  content  specialist.                                                        The  media  validation percentage 3,68 with proper official statement. Data analysis technique used percentage, independent sample t-test and gain score. The research result showed that: 1)  Comic as learning media effective to improve student’s participation in civics. This was proven by analysis of student participation average in experiment and control class. The percentage result in experiment class is 79,41% and included high category. The percentage result in control class is 73,52% and included rather high category. Gain score testing showed that comic as learning media have medium effectiveness level. 2) Comic as learning media effective to improve student’s achievement in civics. This was proven by analysis of Independent Sample T Test that showed t = 2,284. The experiment posttest average result

83,09 and the control posttest average result 76,05. The hypothesis testing showed that thitung > ttabel (2,284 >2,021). The Gain Score testing go into medium effectiveness level. The effectiveness score of experiment class 0,63 while control class showed 0,48.
