DIFFERENCES IN PERCEPTIONS BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY LEADERS AND THE COMMUNITY OF THE PRACTICE OF MONEY POLITICS IN THE ELECTION HELD IN SINDUMARTANI VILLAGE, NGEMPLAK DISTRICT, SLEMAN REGENCY, THE SPECIAL REGION OF YOGYAKARTA

Abstract


This research was aimed at determining whether or not differences in perceptions exist between the community leaders and the community with regard to the practice of money politics in the election held in Sindumartani Village, Ngemplak District, Sleman Regency, the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

This research employed a comparative descriptive method using a quantitative approach. This research was conducted in three hamlets in Sindumartani Village, namely Kayen, Tambakan, and Bokesan. The sample were collected using the technique of purposive sampling, the sample of community leaders were collected using the technique of saturated sampling while the sample of the community were collected using the technique of quota sampling. The data were collected using questionnaires. The validity and reliability of the instrument were examined using the product-moment correlation formula of Karl Pearson. The data were analyzed using the descriptive statistical analysis technique.

The findings suggested that 100% of the community leaders perceived that money politics did not bring any effects on the election. On the other hand, only 30% of the community who perceived that money politics did not bring any effects while the remaining 70% considered money politics to have sufficient effects on the voters’ mind. The independent t-test results generated a t-count value by 4.636, which was higher that the t-table value by 1.984 with a significance value by 0.000. These results suggested that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, meaning that differences in perceptions exist between the community leaders and the community with regard to the practice of money politics in the election held in Sindumartani Village, Ngemplak District, Sleman Regency.
