A MORPHOSEMANTICS ANALYSIS ON THE VILLAGES’ NAMES OF THE REGENCY OF YOGYAKARTA D.I YOGYAKA

Abstract


The purpose of this research is to discuss the acquisition of village names, their meanings, and the basis of village-naming in the regency of Yogyakarta Palace, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The type of this research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research are the names of the villages in the regency of Yogyakarta Palace. The sources of the research are in the form of documentations and the data in The Department of Regional Libraries and Archives of Yogyakarta (BPAD Yogyakarta). The data were collected through observation, documentation and interview. The data were analyzed descriptively. The data were validated using triangulation of sources, intra-rater reliability, and inter-rater reliability. The results of this research are: (1) the acquisition of the names of villages are from derivational words, which are the prefix of the nasal (n), suffix of (-an), the combination of prefix pa- -an and ka- -an, and others from the acquisition of compound words; (2) the meanings of the villages’ names are obtained from roots words, who inhabits the village and verbs; (3) the village-naming is based on who inhabits the village and also the similarities with the objects around them or which they observe and experience.
