Representasi rasisme dalam film The Birth Of Nation (Analisis semiotika Roland Barthes)

Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan 1) representasi rasisme dalam film The Birth Of Nation melalui adegan-adegan dalam film The Birth of Nation menurut pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes; 2) pesan yang disampaikan melalui tanda audiovisual dari makna representasi rasisme pada film The Birth of Nation.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis semiotika Roland Barthes. Objek penelitian yang dipilih adalah film The Birth of Nation karya Nate Parker. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah dokumentasi dan studi pustaka terhadap konten yang terkandung dalam film The Birth of Nation berdasarkan landasan teori yang ada. Analisis data menggunakan model analisis semiotika Roland Barthes, yang terdiri atas penanda, petanda, makna denotatif, makna konotatif, dan mitos yang ditarik berdasarkan teori dari adegan dan shot yang dianalisis.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa 1) Rasisme yang muncul dalam film The Birth of Nation meliputi rasisme personal, institusional, dan stereotip.Sikap rasisme tersebut yang dilakukan secara terus menerus melahirkan suatu perilaku diskrimatif terhadap seseorang atau kelompok tertentu. Seseorang atau kelompok tertentu yang menerima tindakan diskriminasi dengan periode lama, akan melakukan perlawanan. Perlawanan tersebut mengakibatkan banyak korban jatuh, hingga sampai terjadinya pembunuhan masal atau genosida seperti yang tergambar dalam film The Birth of Nation. 2) pesan yang disampaikan melalui tanda audiovisual dalam film The Birth of Nation adalah a) Rasisme sulit dihapuskan karena adanya stereotip yang sudah mendarah daging. b)perjuangan melawan rasisme dan diskriminasi merupakan perjuangan yang tidak mudah
This research aimed to: 1) representation of racism in the movie titled The Birth Of Nation through scenes according to Roland Barthes's semiotic approach; 2) the message conveyed through the audiovisual sign of the meaning of rasicm representation in movie titled The Birth Of Nation. This research employed qualitative approach by using the semiotics analysis proposed by Roland Barthes. The object of this research was the movie entitled The Birth of Nation by Nate Parker. The data collection techniques used were documentations and studying literature towards the content shown in The Birth of Nation. The literary studies were focused on the presented theoretical framework. The data were analyzed by employing the semiotics analysis proposed by Roland Barthes, which were signified, signifier, denotative meaning, connotative meaning, and myths. Those were seen in the scenes of the movie. The result of the research showed that 1) racism found in The Birth of Nation were including personal racism, institutional racism, and stereotypes racism. The act of racism was happened continuously. It ended up as acts of discrimination towards certain individuals or communities. Those people who suffered from discrimination showed an act against the other parties who discriminated them. The act would end up as a war and there were many people killed and suffered from genocides. 2) the messages delivered by the audiovisuals were a) it was difficult to stop the act of racism since there was a continuous stereotype in the community; b) the act against racism was not easy.
