Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mengemukakan pendapat melalui teknik debat aktif pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Jatitujuh Kabupaten Majalengka Jawa Barat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian  tindakan.  Subjek  penelitian  adalah  siswa  kelas  VIII  SMP  Negeri  2  Jatitujuh  yang  memiliki kemampuan mengemukakan pendapat rendah berdasarkan hasil pre-test. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah kuesioner dengan skala Likert, observasi, dan wawancara. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah skala kemampuan memngemukakan pendapat, pedoman observasi dan pedoman wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teknik debat aktif dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mengemukakan pendapat siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Jatitujuh Kabupaten Majalengka Jawa Barat. Keberhasilan penelitian ditunjukkan dengan adanya peningkatan skor rata-rata kemampuan mengemukakan pendapat siswa pada pre test sebesar 87.23, pada post test siklus I meningkat menjadi 136  dengan persentase peningkatan sebesar 25.48%, dan pada post test siklus II menjadi 151.77 dengan persentase peningkatan sebesar 33.62%. Hasil tersebut juga diperkuat dengan dengan observasi dan wawancara yang menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan mengemukakan pendapat. Siswa mampu mengemukakan pendapat dengan baik, siswa terlihat percaya diri ketika mengemukakan pendapat, dan siswa dapat menggunakan bahasa yang baik dan benar ketika mengemukakan pendapat.

Abstract

This research  aimed  to improve the ability to express opinions using the technique of active debates of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Jatitujuh of Majalengka Regency, West Java. This was action research. The research subjects were the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Jatitujuh who, based on the pre-test results, had a poor ability to express opinions. To collect data, this research distributed questionnaires with a Likert scale and conducted observation and interviews. The instruments employed were a scale assessing the ability to express opinions as well as observation and interview guidelines. The data were analyzed using a quantitative descriptive analysis. The findings suggested that the technique of active debates managed to improve the ability to express opinions of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Jatitujuh of Majalengka Regency, West Java. The research success was indicated by the increased means of students’ ability to express opinions, which were 87.23 in the pre-test, 136 in the post-test of the first cycle with a percentage of the resulting increase by 25.48% and 151.77 in the post-test of the second cycle with a percentage of the resulting increase by 33.62%. These findings were as well corroborated by the observation and interviews that suggested an increased ability to express opinions. The students were able to express opinions well, they looked confident while expressing opinions, and they could use the proper and right language when expressing opinions.
